Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, September 25th
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Thank you to everyone who helped so much to make our parish festival possible together, especially the organizing committee under the leadership of our pastoral associate, Johnny Evangelista. Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed a fantastic day or evening together, growing in Christian fraternity. New and strengthened friendships help us to support one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.
If you weren’t here at St. John’s last Sunday, you missed our annual fiscal report. Copies are available in the vestibules for you to take home. We also made an important announcement last week: Our strong financial position has enabled us to take advantage of a great opportunity that presented itself last month: the prospective purchase of the former law office building across Main Street from our church. This will allow us to complete one of our most challenging priorities from our priority plan: a combined parish office space that can accommodate all of our employees in a manner that enables us to serve you better. We will have clear signage, plenty of parking, and a clear visual relationship with the church that will make our offices much easier to find. Ramp access also will make our new offices more accessible to all. I really believe that this opportunity came to us through the work of the Holy Spirit!
Parts of the building are in need of cosmetic touches, and others need more extensive renovations. We will be calling on you soon to lend a hand – especially the many members of our parish with experience in home renovations and building trades. Working together on this project will build more unity in our parish as well!
Last week our parish staff participated in a workshop on communications, led by the Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) team. Our partnership with CLI has provided important training and direction for me and other staff members as well as important leadership for our Parish Priority Plan envisioning and implementation. Our Diocese’s relationship with CLI is made possible in part by the Annual Bishop’s Appeal. At the workshop, I was impressed as always by what a great parish staff we have and how dedicated they are to being disciples of Christ who seek through their work to assist others in being and making disciples.
Tomorrow is the second gathering for our new Kingdom Builders apostolate. I look forward to seeing many ladies from the parish there!
Recent read: Visits to the Blessed Sacrament and the Blessed Virgin by St. Alphonsus Ligouri. These meditations were my fodder for prayer for a few months earlier this year. They would be great for anyone who wants to commit to making a regular visit to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament outside Mass.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
Gracias a todos los que ayudaron a hacer posible el festival parroquial, especialmente al comité organizador bajo la dirección del asociado pastoral, Johnny Evangelista. Gracias a todos los que vinieron y disfrutaron juntos de un día o una noche fantástica creciendo en una fraternidad cristiana. Las amistades nuevas y fortalecidas nos ayudan a apoyarnos unos a otros como hermanos y hermanas en Cristo.
Si no estuvo aquí el domingo pasado, se perdió del informe fiscal anual. Tenemos copias disponibles en los vestíbulos para que usted se las lleve a casa. También hicimos un anuncio importante la semana pasada: Nuestra sólida posición financiera nos ha permitido aprovechar la gran oportunidad que se presentó el mes pasado: la posible compra del antiguo edificio de oficinas legales frente a la iglesia en Main Street. Esto nos permitirá completar una de nuestras prioridades más desafiantes de nuestro plan de prioridades: un espacio de oficina parroquial combinado que pueda acomodar a todos nuestros empleados de una manera que nos permita servirle mejor. Tendremos un letrero más claro, más estacionamiento y una relación clara visual con la iglesia que hará que las oficinas sean mucho más fáciles de encontrar. El acceso con rampa también hará que nuestras nuevas oficinas sean más accesibles para todos. ¡Realmente creo que esta oportunidad nos llegó a través de la obra del Espíritu Santo!
Algunas partes del edificio necesitan toques cosméticos, y otras necesitan renovaciones más extensas. Pronto le pediremos que nos eche una mano, especialmente a los muchos miembros de nuestra parroquia con experiencia en renovaciones de casas y oficios de construcción. ¡Trabajar juntos en este proyecto también construirá más unidad en nuestra parroquia!
La semana pasada, nuestro personal parroquial participó en un taller sobre comunicaciones, dirigido por el equipo del Instituto Católico de Liderazgo (CLI). Nuestra asociación con CLI ha proporcionado capacitación y dirección importantes para mí y otros miembros del personal, así como liderazgo importante para la visión e implementación de nuestro Plan de Prioridad Parroquial. La relación de nuestra Diócesis con CLI es posible en parte gracias a la Campaña Anual del Obispo. En el taller, como siempre me impresionó, el gran personal parroquial que tenemos y lo dedicados que están a ser discípulos de Cristo que buscan a través de su trabajo ayudar a otros a ser y hacer discípulos.
