Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, November 19, 2023

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We recently hung up the new vocations posters in the church with the young men studying for the priesthood for our diocese as well as young women from our diocese in formation for the religious life. It is particularly inspiring to see vocations to the religious life flowering alongside vocations to the priesthood.

You might notice that there are considerably fewer men on this year’s poster. There are even some classes that are empty and, as a result, there will be some years in the near future when we will have no priestly ordinations for our diocese. This is lamentably a national trend. We could speculate about a variety of different causes for this, but the most important thing for us to do is to redouble our prayers and sacrifices offered so that more young men in our diocese will generously respond to the Lord’s call to serve Him and His Church. Furthermore, we can all continue to work for the conditions that are proven to foster priestly vocations:

· Parishes that celebrate the Sacred Liturgy with beauty and reverence

· Families that pray together

· Strong marriages

· Parents who encourage their children to discern and follow God’s will for their lives

· Strong Catholic schools and Catholic homeschooling

· Unwavering support for the Church’s teachings amidst a hostile culture

· Mentorship of young people by strong Catholics

Seeing so many of these characteristics in our parish, I am optimistic for the possibility of future priestly and religious vocations from our parish!

We hope to see you for Holy Mass on Thanksgiving day to offer the Sacrifice of Thanksgiving in the Eucharist! Masses will be in English at 9 a.m. and in Spanish at 11 a.m.

We are now half way towards our goal for the Annual Bishop’s Appeal! Thank you to everyone who has already submitted your pledge, and for those who have not, thank you for prayerfully considering the way that the Lord is calling you to sacrificial generosity in support of the local Church. The Annual Bishop’s Appeal is critical for the financial health not only of our Diocese but also of our parish. If we do not meet our goal, we will have to sacrifice funds that we could have used for important parish programs to make up our deficit. Our most important target is to have 100% participation. If every parishioner or family commits at least $125, we will easily make our goal. Please make your pledge right away if you have not done so yet!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

Recientemente colgamos los nuevos pósters de vocaciones en la iglesia con los jóvenes que estudian para el sacerdocio de nuestra diócesis, así como mujeres jóvenes de nuestra diócesis en formación para la vida religiosa. Es particularmente inspirador ver florecer las vocaciones a la vida religiosa junto con las vocaciones al sacerdocio.

Usted puede notar que hay considerablemente menos hombres en el póster de este año. Incluso hay algunas clases que están vacías y, como resultado, habrá algunos años en el futuro cuando no tendremos ordenaciones sacerdotales para nuestra diócesis. Lamentablemente, se trata de una tendencia nacional. Podríamos especular sobre una variedad de causas diferentes para esto, pero lo más importante para nosotros es redoblar nuestras oraciones y sacrificios ofrecidos para que más hombres jóvenes en nuestra diócesis respondan generosamente al llamado del Señor a servirle a Él y a Su Iglesia. Además, todos podemos seguir trabajando por las condiciones que se ha demostrado que fomentan las vocaciones sacerdotales:

· Parroquias que celebran la Sagrada Liturgia con belleza y reverencia

· Familias que oran juntas

· Matrimonios fuertes

· Padres de animan a sus hijos a discernir y seguir la voluntad de Dios para sus vidas

· Educación católica en el hogar y escuelas católicas sólidas

· Apoyo fijo a las enseñanzas de la Iglesia en medio de una cultura hostil

· Tutoría de jóvenes por parte de personas solidas católicas

Viendo tantas de estas características en nuestra parroquia, ¡soy optimista por la posibilidad de futuras vocaciones sacerdotales y religiosas de nuestra parroquia!

¡Esperamos verlos para la Santa Misa el día de Acción de Gracias para ofrecer el sacrificio de Acción de Gracias en la Eucaristía! Las misas serán en inglés a las 9 a.m. y en español a las 11 a.m.

¡Ahora estamos a mitad de camino hacia nuestra meta para la Apelación Anual del Obispo! Gracias a todos los que ya se comprometieron, y a los que no lo han hecho, gracias por considerar en oración la forma en que el Señor los está llamando a la generosidad sacrificial en apoyo de la Iglesia local. La Apelación Anual del Obispo es crítica para la salud financiera no solo de nuestra Diócesis sino también de nuestra parroquia. Si no cumplimos con nuestra meta, tendremos que sacrificar fondos que podríamos haber utilizado para importantes programas parroquiales para compensar nuestro déficit. Nuestro objetivo más importante es tener un 100% de participación. Si cada feligrés o familia se compromete al menos $125, fácilmente lograremos nuestra meta. Por favor, haga su compromiso de inmediato si no lo ha hecho todavía!
