Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, May 1st
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today we begin the month in honor of our Blessed Mother Mary. What will you do to dedicate this month in her honor? Maybe a regular visit to our Marian grotto, or praying the rosary individually or as a family?
Congratulations to the students from our English language catechesis program and our parish school who received their first Holy Communion yesterday! This Saturday the students from our Spanish language catechesis program will have this beautiful experience as well. Do you remember your first Holy Communion? A St. John’s parishioner in her 90s once told me that she remembered it perfectly. We should be inspired by the love and devotion that the children have for our Eucharistic Lord and imitate their innocent piety. Our goal should be for every holy Communion to be made with more and more fervor.
Last Sunday was the last day for both Spanish and English catechesis classes for the year. Beginning Memorial Day weekend, on May 29th, we will suspend the 3 p.m. Mass in Spanish for the summer. With catechesis classes being over now, Father Parrish and I are interviewing the second year Confirmation students. It is great to see how much they have learned and how they have grown as disciples of Jesus.
Recent read: Five Feasts of the Child Jesus by St. Bonaventure. These meditations on the events surrounding the conception, birth, and childhood of Christ made for beautiful fodder for meditation during the Christmas season.
St. John the Evangelist, pray for us! Truly He is risen, Alleluia!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
Hoy comenzamos el mes en honor a nuestra Santísima Madre María. ¿Qué hará usted para dedicar este mes en su honor? ¿Tal vez una visita regularmente la gruta Mariana, o rezar el rosario individualmente o en familia?
¡Felicidades a los estudiantes de del programa de catequesis en inglés y de la escuela parroquial que ayer recibieron su Primera Comunión! Este sábado los estudiantes del programa de catequesis en español también tendrán esta hermosa experiencia. ¿Recuerdas tu Primera Comunión? Una feligresa de San Juan a sus 90 años me dijo una vez que lo recordaba perfectamente. Debemos inspirarnos en el amor y la devoción que los niños tienen por nuestro Señor Eucarístico e imitar su piedad inocente. Nuestro objetivo debe ser que cada santa comunión se haga con más y más fervor.
El domingo pasado fue el último día del año para las clases de catequesis en español e inglés. Comenzando el fin de semana de Memorial Day, el 29 de mayo, suspenderemos la Misa de 3 p.m. en español por el verano. Con las clases de catequesis terminadas ahora, el Padre Parrish y yo estamos entrevistando a los estudiantes de Confirmación de segundo año. Es genial ver cuánto han aprendido y cómo han crecido como discípulos de Jesús.
¡San Juan Evangelista, ruega por nosotros! ¡Aleluya, verdaderamente Él ha resucitado!
