Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, July 31st
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our fair parking initiative! It was a great experience getting to serve our community, support our parish financially, and especially to get to know the many people who are a part of St. John’s whom we haven’t previously met or interacted with. I’m especially grateful to our pastoral associate, Johnny Evangelista, for being our on-site coordinator and to everyone who helped him behind the scenes with all the logistical work.
This past week the Indiana state legislature met to discussed proposed legislation. At the time at which I write this column, the outcome of the bill is uncertain, but it seems likely that at the very least, much stricter restrictions will be placed on abortion on our state. This is fantastic news for the protection of innocent, unborn lives, the highest priority for Catholics in our engagement with civil society. But we should not forget that we have a lot of work still to do in promoting the dignity of all human lives and helping those in need, especially women experiencing unplanned pregnancies.
As of this writing, we are still look for a new Religious Education Coordinator. We need your help to find a qualified candidate!
Recent read: The Resurrection by Leo Tolstoy. This is Tolstoy’s final novel and, unfortunately, despite the title, a rather anti-Christian work. Here we see Tolstoy’s enlightenment philosophy come out in full force.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
Nuestra iniciativa de estacionamiento justo está en marcha. ¡Gracias a todos los que se han inscrito como voluntarios hasta ahora! Ha sido una gran experiencia servir a nuestra comunidad, apoyar financieramente a nuestra parroquia y, especialmente, conocer a las muchas personas que forman parte de San Juan a quienes no hemos conocido o interactuado anteriormente. Estoy especialmente agradecido con Johnny Evangelista, asociado pastoral, por ser nuestro coordinador en el lugar y a todos los que lo ayudaron detrás de escena con todo el trabajo logístico.
La semana pasada, la legislatura del estado de Indiana se reunió para discutir la propuesta de la legislación. En el momento en el que escribo esta columna, el resultado del proyecto de la ley es incierta, pero parece probable que, al menos, se impongan restricciones mucho más estrictas al aborto en nuestro estado. Esta es una noticia fantástica para la protección de vidas inocentes por nacer, la prioridad más alta para los católicos en nuestro compromiso con la sociedad civil. Pero no debemos olvidar que todavía tenemos mucho por hacer para promover la dignidad de todas las vidas humanas y ayudar a los necesitados, especialmente a las mujeres que experimentan embarazos no planificados.
Al momento de escribir este artículo, todavía estamos buscando un nuevo Coordinador de Educación Religiosa. ¡Necesitamos su ayuda para encontrar un candidato calificado!
