Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, February 18
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The holy season of Lent has begun. We have so many opportunities to grow closer to the Lord this Lent. As we are in the parish phase of the national Eucharistic Revival, many of those opportunities revolve around Christ’s real presence in the Eucharist:
· Our parish Lenten series on Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. This series will help you to understand how we can actually believe in Christ’s presence in the Eucharist, and how His presence brings hope into our lives and world. And we will have the chance to adore Christ truly present in Eucharistic adoration.
· New this year, a parish Lenten retreat on Saturday, March 9! We have excellent guest presenters in Dr. John Cavadini and Fr. Nestor Sanchez. I am really excited for this opportunity!
· Also new this year, 40 Hours is a traditional devotion where parishioners take turns adoring the Eucharistic Lord for forty straight hours. This will take place from the evening of Sunday, March 17 until the evening of Tuesday, March 19. There will be solemn opening and closing festivities on Sunday and Tuesday evenings, and talks on the Eucharist as the concluding chapter to our Lenten series on Sunday and Monday evenings. Please consider signing up for an hour of adoration and joining us each evening.
· Of course, Stations of the Cross each Friday evening
Thank you to everyone who has turned in your pledge to support our parish in the next year for our Proclaiming His Truth, Hope, and Glory campaign. If you haven’t yet made your pledge, please do so right away with a pledge card or on our website (stjohncatholic.com).
Recent read: A Time of Gifts by Patrick Leigh Fermor. The author traveled on foot from Rotterdam to Constantinople in 1935, writing about his experience several decades later. This was the most enjoyable book I have read in a long time – like peering into a vanished world.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
El tiempo santo de la Cuaresma ha comenzado. Tenemos tantas oportunidades para acercarnos al Señor esta Cuaresma. Como estamos en la fase parroquial del Avivamiento Eucarístico nacional, muchas de esas oportunidades giran en torno a la presencia real de Cristo en la Eucaristía:
· Las Jornadas Cuaresmales en la parroquia son los martes por la noche de 6 a 7:30 p.m., esta jornada le ayudará a entender cómo podemos realmente creer en la presencia de Cristo en la Eucaristía, y cómo su presencia trae esperanza a nuestras vidas y al mundo. Y tendremos la oportunidad de adorar a Cristo verdaderamente presente en la adoración eucarística.
· ¡Nuevo este año, un retiro parroquial de Cuaresma el sábado 9 de marzo! Tenemos excelentes presentadores, el Dr. John Cavadini y P. Néstor Sánchez. ¡Estoy muy emocionada por esta oportunidad!
· También nuevo este año, 40 horas es una devoción tradicional donde los feligreses se turnan para adorar al Señor Eucarístico durante cuarenta horas seguidas. Esto tendrá lugar desde la tarde del domingo 17 de marzo hasta la tarde del martes 19 de marzo.
· Habrá festividades solemnes de apertura y cierre el domingo y martes por la tarde, y charlas sobre la Eucaristía como el capítulo final de las Jornadas Cuaresmales. Por favor, considere inscribirse para una hora de adoración y unirse a nosotros cada noche.
· Por supuesto, Estaciones del Via Crucis cada viernes por la tarde
