Pastor's Weekly Update: March 14, 2021
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our Lenten series continues this week as we explore St. Joseph and the sanctification of work. St. Joseph was an honest and hardworking man – a great model for us all. We look forward to seeing you this Tuesday for our third session! The Spanish track starts at 6 p.m. with Mass in the church and the English track starts at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. It has been great to have a parish-wide event once again! Next week will be our final installment as we explore “St. Joseph, Terror of Demons.”
Friday, March 19th, is the Solemnity of St. Joseph. This feast is particularly significant this year during the Year of St. Joseph. We began a Novena to St. Joseph last Wednesday, which is being recited after all Masses until March 19th. Following March 19th, we will recite the Litany of St. Joseph after Mass on Wednesdays, the day traditional dedicated to him (like Saturday is to Mary, Fridays to the Sacred Heart, Thursdays for the Blessed Sacrament).
Among other celebrations on St. Joseph’s feast day, I will be assisting with a Solemn Mass in the Extraordinary Form (Latin Mass) at St. Joseph Parish in Mishawaka. You are welcome to come and join us! They have recently replaced their carpet with wood floors and had their pews refinished. Seeing all the damage that our pews have sustained from the constant disinfecting procedures, I’m very interested in seeing if we can do something similar at St. John’s.
A happy feast day of St. Patrick on Wednesday as well to all our Irish men and women! My great-grandfather came to the United States from Ireland. The Church has gone through a very difficult time in Ireland these past few years. When I was there in 2016 it was difficult to see priests being entrusted with four or five mostly empty parishes in a country that used to send priests every year to serve the Irish immigrants in the United States. Those of us who owe our Catholic faith to our Irish ancestors ought to pray fervently this Wednesday that St. Patrick and the Blessed Mother will intercede for the Emerald Isle to bring the faith in Christ and His Church back to Ireland.

Queridos hermanos en Cristo,
Nuestro Camino Cuaresmal continúa esta semana mientras exploramos San José y la santificación del trabajo. San José era un hombre honesto y trabajador, un gran modelo para todos nosotros. El curso en español comienza a las 6 p.m. con la Misa en la iglesia y el curso en inglés comienza a las 6:30 p.m. en el gimnasio. ¡Ha sido genial tener un evento parroquial una vez más! La próxima semana será nuestra última platica mientras exploramos "San José, Terror de demonios".
El viernes 19 de marzo es la Solemnidad de San José. Esta fiesta es particularmente significativa este año durante el Año de San José. Comenzamos una Novena a San José el miércoles pasado que está siendo recitada después de todas las misas hasta el 19 de marzo. Después del 19 de marzo, de la Misa de los miércoles recitaremos la Letanía a San José, día tradicional dedicado a él (como el sábado es a María, viernes al Sagrado Corazón, jueves para el Santísimo Sacramento).
Entre otras celebraciones el día de la fiesta de San José, asistiré con una misa solemne en la Forma Extraordinaria (Misa latín) en la Parroquia de San José en Mishawaka. ¡Puedes venir y unirte a nosotros! Han reemplazado recientemente su alfombra con pisos de madera y han reacabado sus bancas. Viendo todo el daño que nuestros bancos han sufrido por el procedimiento constante de desinfección, estoy muy interesado en ver si podemos hacer algo similar aquí.
¡Un feliz día de la fiesta de San Patricio este miércoles y también para todos nuestros hombres y mujeres irlandeses! Mi bisabuelo vino a los Estados Unidos desde Irlanda. La Iglesia ha pasado por un momento muy difícil en Irlanda estos últimos años. Cuando estuve allí en 2016 fue difícil ver a los sacerdotes que se les confiaban cuatro o cinco parroquias, en su mayoría vacías, en un país que solía enviar sacerdotes cada año para servir a los inmigrantes irlandeses en los Estados Unidos. Aquellos de nosotros que debemos nuestra fe católica a nuestros antepasados irlandeses debemos orar fervientemente este miércoles para que San Patricio y la Santísima Madre por la Isla Esmeralda para traer la fe en Cristo y su Iglesia de vuelta a Irlanda.
