Pastor's Weekly Message: Sunday, May 2
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We are excited for our First Holy Communions for the students of our Spanish religious education program this Saturday! It is especially great that more people will be able to come this year. We will still have livestreams available for those who aren’t able to make it in person. Please pray for these beloved children of God today, that the grace of Holy Communion will help them to grow in love for God each day, and that each Communion will be more fervent than the last. This is a great opportunity for all of us to recall the day when we received Jesus in Holy Communion for the first time, and to excite in our own hearts the fervor with which we ought to approach the Heavenly Banquet.
A reminder that next Thursday, May 13th, we will host a Solemn Extraordinary Form (Latin) Mass for the Feast of the Lord’s Ascension. It will be great to celebrate this feast on its traditional date, exactly 40 days after Easter. I find it rather embarrassing that some Protestant communities in our area observe the traditional date of Ascension – many of them not coming to work on that day – and we transfer it to Sunday because it would just be too much to insist on another Holy Day of Obligation. Hopefully you can join us on the 13th at 6 p.m. for this beautiful Mass. Translations in English and Spanish will be available and the sermon will be bilingual. Our choir is working hard to prepare more beautiful music.
We are starting to hit our stride with the revised and somewhat relaxed Mass procedures for social distancing. Thank you for your patience in these adjustments, especially to our ushers and other volunteers.
Recent read: Target Africa: Ideological neo-colonialism of the twenty-first century by Obianuju Ekeocha. The author is a Nigerian woman who is a research scientist working in England. She is an outspoken advocate of African nations’ rights to live their traditional cultural values – especially with regards to children and the family – without interference from Westerners who are increasingly attempting to force anti-family and anti-life values on Africans through “aid” programs.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
¡Estamos emocionados por las primeras Santa Comuniones para los estudiantes de nuestro programa de educación religiosa en español este sábado! Es genial que más personas puedan asistir este año. Todavía tendremos transmisiones en vivo disponibles para aquellos que no pueden asistir en persona. Oren hoy por estos amados hijos de Dios, para que la gracia de la Santa Comunión les ayude a enamorarse de Dios cada día, y que cada Comunión sea más ferviente que la anterior. Esta es una gran oportunidad para todos nosotros de recordar el día en que recibimos a Jesús en la Santa Comunión por primera vez, y de estimular en nuestros propios corazones el fervor con el que debemos acercarnos al banquete celestial.
Un recordatorio de que el próximo jueves, 13 de mayo, organizaremos una misa solemne de forma extraordinaria (latín) para la fiesta de la Ascensión del Señor. Será genial celebrar esta fiesta en su fecha tradicional, exactamente 40 días después de Semana Santa. Me parece bastante vergonzoso que algunas comunidades protestantes de nuestra zona observen la fecha tradicional de la Ascensión - muchas de ellas no vienen a trabajar ese día - y la transferimos al domingo porque sería demasiado insistir en otro día santo de obligación. Esperemos que pueda unirse a nosotros el día 13 a las 6 p.m. para esta hermosa misa. Las traducciones en inglés y español estarán disponibles y el sermón será bilingüe. Nuestro coro está trabajando duro para preparar música hermosa.
Estamos empezando a dar un paso con los procedimientos revisados y algo relajados de la Misa para el distanciamiento social. Gracias por su paciencia en estos ajustes, especialmente a nuestros ujieres y otros voluntarios.
