Pastor's Message: January 3, 2021
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Happy feast of the Epiphany of the Lord! Our Christmas celebrations continue today as we celebrate the three great events of the Lord’s Epiphany: The coming of the three kings, the Baptism of the Lord, and the wedding feast at Cana. Though we usually think of the Epiphany as being primarily about the first event (with the other two being unpacked in the Gospels over the next two weeks) all three are a part of this feast.
Though we currently in the US transfer Epiphany to the closest Sunday, its real date is January 6. (You know the whole 12 days of Christmas thing? That’s what it’s talking about – the twelve days between Christmas and Epiphany.) This year we will celebrate Epiphany on its proper date this Wednesday, January 6 with a Solemn Mass in the Extraordinary Form (frequently known as the “Latin Mass”). Everyone is invited to come and experience the beauty and grandeur of the more ancient form of the more Roman Rite. Translation books will be available in English and Spanish, and the homily will be bilingual. This is a great opportunity as well for our entire parish to come together to worship the Lord without the difficult task of deciding which parts of the Mass will be in English or Spanish. We will likely welcome guests from other parishes as well. Thanks in advance for your hospitality!
I am grateful to Fr. Jose for keeping everything under control during my absence this past week. It was great to spend some time with family and de-stress from this crazy Christmas season.
Recent read: Jonathan Robinson. In No Strange Land: The embodied mysticism of St. Philip Neri. St. Philip has been one of my favorite saints since getting to know him in Rome. This book delves deeper into the foundations of his spirituality and illuminates the real meaning of mysticism, which is much more than a sentimental phenomenon.

Queridos hermanos en Cristo,
¡Feliz fiesta de la Epifanía del Señor! Nuestras celebraciones navideñas continúan hoy mientras celebramos los tres grandes acontecimientos de la Epifanía del Señor: la venida de los tres reyes, el Bautismo del Señor y la fiesta de bodas en Caná. Aunque solemos pensar en la Epifanía como si fuera principalmente en el primer evento (con los otros dos desenvolviéndose durante las próximas dos semanas Evangelios) los tres son parte de esta fiesta. Aunque actualmenteen Estados Unidos transferimos el día de la Epifanía al domingo más cercano, su fecha real es el 6 de enero.(Sabes los 12 días de semana? Eso es de lo que está hablando – los doce días entre la Navidad y la Epifanía.) Este año celebraremos el día la Epifanía en su fecha este miércoles 6 de enero con una Misa Solemne en la Forma Extraordinaria (frecuentemente conocida como la "Misa Latín"). Todos están invitados a venir y experimentar la belleza y la grandeza de la forma más antigua del rito romano. Los libros de traducción estarán disponibles en inglés y en español, y la homilía será bilingue. Esta es también una gran oportunidad para que toda nuestra parroquia se reúna para adorar al Señor sin la tarea difícil de decidir qué partes de la Misa serán en inglés o en español. Probablemente también daremos la bienvenida a personas de otras parroquias. ¡Gracias de antemano por su hospitalidad!
Estoy agradecido al P. José por mantener todo bajo control durante mi ausencia la semana pasada. Fue genial pasar algún tiempo con la familia y desestresarme de esta temporada navideña loca.
