Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, October 2nd
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today is the kickoff for the Annual Bishop’s Appeal! Thank you to everyone who has already submitted your pledge, and for those who have not, thank you for prayerfully considering the way that the Lord is calling you to sacrificial generosity in support of the local Church. The Annual Bishop’s Appeal is critical for the financial health not only of our Diocese but also of our parish. After receiving the final results from last year’s Appeal, we met and exceeded our goal by a substantial amount for the first time in many years. The amount contributed above our goal paid for the addition of handicapped door openers for our church. If everyone works together, we will have no problem doing so again. Our most important target is to have 100% participation!
This year, any amount we receive above our goal will support the renovation of our new parish office building. This important project is a big “thank you” to the dedicated staff members who serve our parish so generously, will make our parish offices easier to find and access, and will create a more welcoming environment for our parishioners and those just starting to get to know our parish. We will also free up valuable space in our parish school for the increasing amount of services we offer to our students and their families and in the Hispanic Ministry Center for more space for parish group meetings.
The Annual Bishop’s Appeal benefits our parish in many practical ways. Catholic Charities provides assistance to those in need, especially by significantly increasing their mental health offerings. The Office and Hispanic Ministry and Special Projects has hosted several Diocesan retreats and events right here at St. John’s, making their programming more accessible to our parishioners. The Catholic Schools Office (now including one of our parishioners!) is providing extensive support for our school, including valuable training for our new principal. They also support the Catholic identity and mission of our school through training and workshops for our teachers.
The biggest expense of all supported by the Annual Bishop’s Appeal is the over $1 million for seminarian tuition. Our parish has been incredibly blest the past few years to receive newly ordained priests who have received excellent priestly formation in our seminaries through your support of the Annual Bishop’s Appeal. Their joy, energy, and love for Christ have been a powerful force for renewal in our parish.
If everyone works together, we will meet and exceed our goal once again. Thank you for your generosity!

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
¡Hoy es el inicio de la Apelación Anual del Obispo! Gracias a todos los que ya han presentado su promesa, y los que no lo han hecho, gracias por considerar en oración la manera en el que el Señor los está llamando a la generosidad sacrificial en apoyo de la Iglesia local. La Apelación Anual del Obispo es fundamental para la salud financiera no solo de nuestra Diócesis sino también de nuestra parroquia. Después de recibir los resultados finales de la Apelación del año pasado, cumplimos y superamos nuestra meta por primera vez en muchos años. La cantidad contribuida adicional que rebaso nuestra meta pagó por la adición de abridores de puertas para discapacitados para nuestra iglesia. Si todos trabajan juntos, no tendremos ningún problema en hacerlo de nuevo. ¡Nuestro objetivo más importante es tener el 100% de participación! Todos tenemos un papel que desempeñar en el apoyo a nuestra Iglesia.
Este año, cualquier cantidad que recibamos por encima de nuestra meta apoyará la renovación de nuestro nuevo edificio de las oficinas parroquiales. Este importante proyecto es una “gracias” a los dedicados miembros del personal que sirven a nuestra parroquia tan generosamente, hará que nuestras oficinas parroquiales sean más fáciles de encontrar y acceder, y creará un ambiente más acogedor para nuestros feligreses y aquellos que apenas comienzan a conocer nuestra parroquia. También dejaremos libre un espacio valioso en nuestra escuela parroquial para el aumento de servicios que ofrecemos a nuestros estudiantes y sus familias y en el Centro de Ministerio Hispano( La Casa Roja) para tener más espacio para reuniones de grupos parroquiales.
La Apelación Anual del Obispo beneficia a nuestra parroquia de muchas maneras prácticas. Caridades Católicas brinda asistencia a los necesitados, especialmente aumentando significativamente sus ofertas de salud mental. La oficina y el ministerio Hispano y proyectos especiales han organizado varios retiros y eventos diocesanos aquí en la parroquia, haciendo que su programación sea más accesible para nuestros feligreses (incluyendo un retiro bilingüe para niñas de 15 años y sus mamás), y también está ayudando a formar nuestro equipo de implementación para nuestro plan estratégico. La Oficina de Escuelas Católicas (¡ahora incluyendo a uno de nuestros feligreses!) está brindando un amplio apoyo a nuestra escuela, incluyendo una capacitación valiosa para nuestra nueva directora. También apoyan la identidad católica y la misión de nuestra escuela a través de capacitación y talleres para nuestros maestros.
La Apelación Anual del Obispo apoya con mas de $1 millón de dólares para la matricula de los seminaristas, este es el gasto mas grande. En los últimos años nuestra parroquia ha sido increíblemente bendecida al recibir sacerdotes recién ordenados que han recibido una excelente formación sacerdotal en nuestros seminarios a través de su apoyo a la Apelación Anual del Obispo. Su alegría, energía y amor por Cristo han sido una fuerza poderosa para la renovación en nuestra parroquia.
