Pastor's Message: August 23, 2020
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today we welcome Fr. Tony Pizzo, O.S.A. and Fr. Jim Halstead, O.S.A. from the Midwest Augustinians. Fr. Tony and Fr. Jim will share with us about the Augustinians’ missions in Peru. I hope that everyone will respond generously to their mission appeal. This is a great opportunity to assist those in need and support the work of the universal Church.
I am away this weekend celebrating my mother’s, sister’s, and sister-in-law’s birthdays. Mom has a big birthday this year, but I think she would prefer I not say which.
Last Sunday we added an additional 3 p.m. Mass in Spanish. We will continue evaluating Mass attendance and adjust accordingly.
Some people have reported some difficulties in the quality of the transmission of Mass while watching on Facebook. Several weeks ago we changed the way that our streaming works, using a service that streams to YouTube and Facebook simultaneously. The viewing quality seems to be significantly better on YouTube. If you find yourself watching Mass from home online, I would suggest watching on YouTube instead of Facebook. You can find the link on our website under “Mass times.”
I have met with several people recently who are interested in becoming Catholic. Is there anyone in your life who has ever expressed interest in learning more about the Catholic faith? We will begin the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults soon, through which interested people can learn more about the Catholic faith and prepare to receive the Sacraments. Is there anyone you could invite to participate?
Recent read: Jesus of Nazareth, Part II by Benedict XVI. This was my spiritual reading for Holy Week and Easter. This volume of Benedict’s three part Jesus of Nazareth series focuses on Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection.

Hoy le damos la bienvenida al P. Tony Pizzo, O.S.A. y al P. Jim Halstead, O.S.A. de los Agustinos del Medio Oeste. El P. Tony y el P. Jim compartirán con nosotros sobre las misiones de los Agustinos en Perú. Espero que todos respondan generosamente a su llamamiento misional. Estaré fuera este fin de semana celebrando los cumpleaños de mi mama, mi hermana y mi cuñada. Mi mamá tiene cumpleaños grande este año, pero creo que preferiría que no dijera cuál.
El domingo pasado añadimos una Misa adicional de 3 p.m. en español. Continuaremos evaluando la asistencia a la Misa y ajustaremos en consecuencia.

Hace varias semanas cambiamos la forma en que funciona nuestra transmisión en vivo, utilizando un servicio que transmite a YouTube y Facebook simultáneamente. La calidad de visualización parece ser significativamente mejor en YouTube. Si te encuentras viendo Misa desde casa en línea, te sugiero que veas en YouTube en lugar de Facebook. Recientemente me he reunido con varias personas que están interesadas en ser católicas. ¿hay alguien en tu vida que haya expresado interés en aprender más sobre la fe católica? Pronto comenzaremos el Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos, a través del cual las personas interesadas pueden aprender más sobre la fe católica y prepararse para recibir los sacramentos. ¿hay alguien a quien usted pueda invitar a participar?
