Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We are excited to celebrate today the 50th anniversary of the dedication of our parish church, which took place on July 19th, 1970. Every year this anniversary is a solemnity (the highest rank of Catholic feasts), and God’s providence has placed this 50th anniversary on a Sunday – a happy occurrence indeed! This celebration recalls how our church is a place dedicated to the Lord, where He is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament and in the Church gathered in His name. A lot has happened in these past 50 years in the world, in our community, and in the life of our parish, and our parish church has been a place of stability and rootedness for us in times of uncertainty and instability. This is not only because of our strong community, but because our parish church is a place for us to be focused on the source of all truth and goodness, all that is truly unchangeable: God Himself. In these times of uncertainty, our parish church will be a place where we can continue to find rest in the presence of the One who can bring peace and joy to our lives: Jesus Christ, present especially in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the altar.

Over the past few weeks I have written about clergy visitation at health care facilities. I received some good news from Goshen Health recently about the possibility of visiting patients there in limited circumstances. Know that your priests will always be there for you in a time of need and please let us know especially about anyone who is in danger of death. The best way to reach us in a time of need is the parish emergency line. Call the parish office (574.533.3385) and press 9 for an emergency if there is no answer. During office hours the staff will be able to reach us. Please do not attempt to contact us via Facebook, email, personal numbers, etc. if it is an emergency because we may not be able to respond quickly. (I do not check Facebook messages and at all and usually check email (including voicemails left on my office phone) during business hours and occasionally in the evenings.) The dedicated emergency line is our way of being available to you in a time of need.

Fr. Jose will be away on a well-deserved vacation July 22-27. I will also be gone enjoying some time with brother priests July 27-31. For this reason, we will not have Masses or confessions on Monday, July 27. Thank you for your understanding. These chances to build fraternal support with our brother priests are essential to growing in our own priestly vocation and remaining faithful to the promises we made at our ordination.

We are still accepting registrations at our parish school. Several grades have openings, especially our three-year-old preschool class. Don’t miss this opportunity to give your child the gift of a Catholic education!

We have filled the daytime maintenance position but we are still looking for an afternoon / evening maintenance technician and a secretary for the Hispanic ministry office. Please let us know if have any suggestions!

Recent read: The Light of the World by Benedict XVI with Peter Seewald. This interview with Pope Benedict came out several years ago but I never had the chance to read it. Benedict was the first pope (I’m pretty sure) to give extensive interviews of this sort. His ability to express spiritual and theological depth in a readily-understandable manner is always inspiring.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

¡Estamos emocionados de celebrar hoy el 50 aniversario de la dedicación de nuestra parroquia, que tuvo lugar el 19 de julio de 1970. Cada año este aniversario es una solemnidad (el rango más alto de fiestas católicas), y la providencia de Dios ha colocado este 50 aniversario en domingo, ¡un acontecimiento feliz! Esta celebración recuerda que nuestra iglesia es un lugar dedicado al Señor, donde está verdaderamente presente en el Santísimo Sacramento y en la iglesia reunida en Su nombre. Han pasado muchas cosas en estos últimos 50 años en el mundo, en nuestra comunidad y en la vida de nuestra parroquia, y nuestra parroquia ha sido un lugar de estabilidad y de raíz para nosotros en tiempos de incertidumbre e inestabilidad. Esto no es sólo por nuestra fuerte comunidad, sino porque nuestra iglesia parroquial es un lugar para que nos concentremos en la fuente de toda verdad y bondad, todo lo que es verdaderamente inmutable: Dios mismo. En estos tiempos de incertidumbre, nuestra iglesia parroquial será un lugar donde podemos seguir descansando en presencia de Aquel que puede traer paz y alegría a nuestra vida: Jesucristo, presente especialmente en el Santísimo Sacramento del altar.

En las últimas semanas he escrito sobre visitas del clero en centros de salud. Recientemente recibí algunas buenas noticias de Goshen Health sobre la posibilidad de visitar a los pacientes allí en circunstancias limitadas. Sepa que sus sacerdotes siempre estarán ahí para usted en un momento de necesidad y por favor háganoslo saber especialmente sobre cualquier persona que esté en peligro de muerte. La mejor manera de comunicarse con nosotros en un momento de necesidad es la línea de emergencia parroquial. Llame a la oficina parroquial (574-533-3385) y presione 9 para una emergencia si nadie le contesta la llamada. Durante el horario de oficina, el personal podrá comunicarse con nosotros. Por favor, no intente ponerse en contacto con nosotros a través de Facebook, correo electrónico, números personales, etc. si es una emergencia porque es posible que no podamos responder rápidamente. No veo los mensajes de Facebook en y por lo general chequeo el correo electrónico (incluyendo los mensajes de voz dejados en mi teléfono de oficina) durante el horario de oficina y ocasionalmente en las noches.) La línea de emergencia dedicada es nuestra forma de estar disponibles para usted en un momento de necesidad.

El P. José estará fuera en unas merecidas vacaciones del 22 al 27 de julio. También me iré a disfrutar de algún tiempo con los hermanos sacerdotes del 27 al 31 de julio. Por esta razón, no tendremos misas ni confesiones el lunes 27 de julio. Gracias por su comprensión. Estas posibilidades de construir un apoyo fraterno con nuestros hermanos sacerdotes son esenciales para crecer en nuestra propia vocación sacerdotal y permanecer fieles a las promesas que hicimos en nuestra ordenación.

Todavía estamos aceptando inscripciones en nuestra escuela parroquial. Varios grados tienen vacantes, especialmente nuestra clase de preescolar de tres años. ¡No pierda esta oportunidad de darle a su hijo el regalo de una educación católica!

Hemos llenado la posición de mantenimiento de día, pero todavía estamos buscando un técnico de mantenimiento por la tarde / noche y una secretaria para la oficina del ministerio hispano. ¡Por favor, háganos saber si tiene alguna sugerencia!
