Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is with heavy heart that I write to inform you that all public events, including Mass and any other liturgies, any and all parish events, and any ministries or parish groups whether held here at St. John’s or at any other location have been cancelled until further notice. There are no words to describe the great sorrow I feel as a priest not being able to offer Holy Mass publicly during this time and I am sure that you feel the same way. Our parish church will remain open for private prayer with our Eucharistic Lord. Please respect social distancing procedures while visiting Jesus in the Eucharist and obey all directions from local government and law enforcement regarding travel as this situation rapidly evolves.

Your priests and parish staff are working very hard to develop contingency plans for important events. We understand that many people are worried about important celebrations such as baptisms, ceremonies of reception into the Church, weddings, quinceañera celebrations, and much more. We will be reaching out to you and ask for your understanding and patience. The health of our community is paramount at this time.

Living without the Eucharist will be a great spiritual sadness for all of us. I invite you to recall the example of heroic, saintly Christians who lived during times of persecution, and even many of our brothers and sisters throughout the world who only rarely are able to celebrate the Eucharist due to the shortage of priests in missionary territories. We are in union with them during this spiritual fast. May our longing for Christ’s Body and Blood during this time build up a greater hunger in our hearts for the Eucharist when we are able to gather once again for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass! We will continue bringing the Eucharist as viaticum to the dying. In the case of an emergency, you can call the parish office (574.533.3385) and follow the prompts for an emergency

Our staff is hard at work preparing resources for you to live the faith at home, especially as a family. We will be in touch about any livestreamed Masses we might be able to offer. I hope that you will take this time to grow closer as a family and take ownership of your own life of faith. Pay attention to your email accounts and our parish’s Facebook page for more updates.

Your priests continue to be available for the Sacrament of Confession on an individual basis. However, the regularly scheduled confession times are also suspended. If you desire to go to confession, please contact one of the priests directly to schedule a time via email or by calling the parish office. We continue to offer Mass each day, and will fulfill all scheduled Mass intentions.

Our country’s economy faces much uncertainty at this time, and many people have asked how they can continue supporting our parish when Masses are not being held. By doing so, you enable us to continue supporting the talented people who do so much for our parish on our staff and to assist those in need during this time of crisis.

These extreme circumstances give us the opportunity for public witness. Throughout history, Christians have borne witness to their faith in Christ during times of crisis by their joy, hope, and fraternal concern for one another. We must be mindful of the poor, sick, and elderly during this crisis. Please let our parish know if you know of anyone in need, or if you would be interested in joining the team of parishioners ready to help.

Most importantly, my brothers and sisters, let us not lose hope and continue placing our confidence in Christ and the intercession of His saints! I look forward eagerly to the time when we will be able to gather again in the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. In this time of trial, let us pray constantly for one another.

Es con mucho dolor que les escribo para informarles que todos los eventos públicos, incluyendo la Misa y cualesquiera otras celebraciones litúrgicas, cualquier y todos los eventos parroquiales y cualquier ministerios o grupos parroquiales, ya sea que se reúnan aquí en la Parroquia de San Juan o cualquier otro lugar han sido cancelados hasta nuevo aviso. Estamos en unión con ellos durante este tiempo de ayuno espiritual. ¡Que el anhelo por el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo durante este tiempo aumente en nuestros corazones un hambre mayor por la Eucaristía cuando nos podamos reunir una vez más para el Santo Sacrificio de la Misa! Continuaremos llevando la Eucaristía como viaticum a los moribundos. En caso de emergencia pueden llamar a la oficina parroquial (574.533.3385) y sigan las instrucciones para una emergencia.

Nuestro personal está trabajando arduamente al preparar recursos para ustedes para que vivan su fe en casa, especialmente como familia.
